Go big this 4th of July with a huge slab pie featuring cherry and blueberry pie filling, topped with a sweet crunch of raw sugar. This recipe uses pre-made pie crusts for an easy assembly of a festive American flag design, baked on a Traeger grill.
Remove pie crusts from packaging and bring up to room temperature. On a lightly floured surface, roll 3 pie crusts together to form a large rectangle, approximately 22 X 15”. Line a full size rimmed sheet pan (18x13) pressing gently into the corners to fit. Trim any excess with a knife. Refrigerate till ready to use.
Roll out the remaining two pie crusts on a lightly floured surface. Cut 7 23x 1” strips of dough plus 24-1” stars. Refrigerate till ready to use.
Take 1 strip of pie dough and form the barrier for the stars portion of the flag. Press down the strip of dough onto the base and edge of the pie.
Fill stars area with blueberry pie filling. You may not need a whole can. Do not over fill as it will expand slightly when baking.
Fill stripes area of pie with 3 cans of cherry pie filling. Spread out to fill all sections.
Layer on dough cut outs of Stars and Stripes to form the flag. Brush pie dough with egg wash (1 egg whisked with 1 tbsp water) and sprinkle on raw sugar generously.
Refrigerate for 1 hour.
Preheat @traegergrills to 375F. Place pie on grill and bake for 45 minutes to 1 hour or until Golden & bubbling. Remove from grill - Cool for at least 1 hour prior to serving or Refrigerate - To chill down completely.
