Stars, Stripes, and Slab Pie on the Traeger
45 mins prepServes 16
This Fourth of July crowd-pleaser is bursting with blueberry + cherry filling & baked on the grill for that perfect golden crust. Feeds a whole party, looks like the American flag, and tastes like sweet liberty.
1. Remove pie crusts from packaging & bring up to room temp.
2. On a lightly floured surface, roll 3 pie crusts together to form a large rectangle 22 X 15” & line a full size sheet pan (18x13 rolled lip pan) pressing gently into the corners to fit. Trim any excess with knife. Refrigerate.
3. Roll out the remaining two pie crusts on a lightly floured surface.
4. Cut 7 strips of dough (23x 1”) plus 24-1” stars from the rolled out pie crusts. Refrigerate till ready to use.
5. Take 1 strip of pie dough & form the barrier for the stars portion of the flag. Press down the strip of dough onto the base and edge of the pie.
6. Fill the stars area with blueberry pie filling. You may not need a whole can. Do not overfill as it will expand slightly when baking.
7. Fill the stripes area of the pie with 3 cans of cherry pie filling. Spread out to fill all sections.
8. Layer on dough cut outs of Stars and Stripes to form the flag. Brush pie dough with egg wash (1 egg whisked with 1 tbsp water) & sprinkle on raw sugar.
9. Refrigerate for 1 hour.
10. Preheat Traeger to 375F.
11. Bake for 45 minutes to 1 hour or until Golden & bubbling.
12. Remove from grill - Cool for at least 1 hour prior to serving or refrigerate to chill down completely.
13. Serve with whipped cream or ice cream for your celebrations!
